Parents and potential parents are encouraged to attend the third annual First Food Festival on August 20, 2016 at the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The festival will be hosted by Council Member Robert Cornegy Jr., who is fresh off the heels of a successful bill that guarantees sanitary spaces for women who need to breastfeed in public spaces.
The festival is part of a month-long campaign that is expertly organized by the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, which as effectively created the Brooklyn Breastfeeding Empowerment Zone.
The organizers envision a world where all babies have the opportunity to have breastmilk as their First Food experience, no matter their neighborhood, race or family income. The goal of the festival is to highlight and increase awareness of the various supports breastfeeding families have at their disposal in the neighborhoods of Bedford Stuyvesant, Brownsville and Northern Crown Heights.
