Governor Kathy Hochul on Tuesday said any federal employee who has been recently dismissed by the Trump administration should consider taking a job in New York.
The governor launched a “You’re Hired” initiative amid dismissals of federal employees by the Department of Government Efficiency. The program aims to recruit displaced public sector workers into New York State government, according to a press release.
“The federal government might say, ‘You’re fired,’ but here in New York, we say, ‘You’re hired.’ In fact, we love federal workers,” Hochul said. “Whatever your skills, we value public service."
The initiative is one of several steps taken by the governor's administration to strengthen New York’s workforce.
“Public service is a noble calling, and we’re looking for the best and brightest to come work for New York State. Under Governor Hochul’s leadership, we have been working hard to retain and recruit the next generation of employees and servant-leaders," said New York State Department of Civil Service Commissioner and Civil Service Commission President Timothy R. Hogues.
State officials say New York’s public sector jobs offer stability, competitive pay, and strong benefits, making them an attractive option for laid-off federal employees.
“Careers in public service offer stability, competitive pay great benefits and a chance to make a difference in the lives of your fellow New Yorkers. I encourage all former federal workers with a continued interest in public service to check out the many careers in New York State government today," said New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon.
