Top officials for President Donald Trump, including the defense secretary, texted war plans for upcoming military strikes in Yemen to a group chat that included the editor-in-chief for The Atlantic, the magazine reported on Monday.

The National Security Council said the text chain “appears to be authentic," reported the Associated Press.

The material in the text chain on the Signal encrypted messaging service “contained operational details of forthcoming strikes on Iran-backed Houthi-rebels in Yemen, including information about targets, weapons the U.S. would be deploying, and attack sequencing from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth,” Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of the Atlantic, reported.

CIA Director John Ratcliffe also sent “information that might be interpreted as related to actual and current intelligence operations,” according to Goldberg's reporting.

About two hours after Goldberg received the details of the attack on March 15, the U.S. began launching a series of airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, the AP said.
