By the Brooklyn NAACP
The NAACP will host its 54th Image Awards in Pasadena, California. Each year, the organization recognizes the contributions of people of color to the arts, politics, their communities, education, and more. The annual event is a convening of the brightest and most talented movers and shakers in various industries. It is an honor to be nominated and recognized for one’s achievements over the past year, especially by your own community.
This year, #SundayCivics, the politics podcast hosted by Brooklyn NAACP president L. Joy Williams, has once again been nominated for “Outstanding News and Information Podcast”. Williams is honored to be recognized alongside peers Trevor Noah, Eboni K. Williams, Trymane Lee, and Will Lucas. The podcast airs on SiriusXM Urban View channel 126 on Sunday mornings at 9am and is also a podcast available on all platforms.
L. Joy Williams is a highly sought-after political strategist, public speaker, political analyst, and social justice activist. With well over a decade of experience in politics, and over fifteen years in public speaking, L. Joy has made a name for herself as a respected, intelligent voice in modern politics. With #SundayCivics, Williams’ goal is to teach civic education through the lens of our current political climate. Her aim is to give listeners the necessary history and context on political issues and inspire them to get engaged at all levels of government.
Guests include advocates and activists, local and federal elected officials, academics, and everyday citizens making a difference in their communities. Notable guests include: 82nd Attorney General of the United States Eric Holder; NY Attorney General Leticia James; Past Republican National Committee President Michael Steele; Congressman James E. Clyburn; NAACP President Derrick Johnson; DNC Chair Jaime Harrison; and Sen. Elizabeth Warren. They each recognized the potential to reach broader audiences by coming on the podcast and Williams has developed a medium for guests to connect with listeners who may otherwise feel distanced or out-of-touch.
