Coney Island USA is set to launch its inaugural Clown Skool on Nov. 10-17, offering aspiring clowns the opportunity to learn from seasoned artists.

The Coney Island Clown Skool, set in the amusement district's oldest landmarked building, aims to produce not just better clowns, but better creators, performers and storytellers, according to a press release.

The week-long experience promises a unique and unforgettable experience under the slogan “Enter Curious, Leave Inspired.” The intensive will feature a diverse lineup of workshops and hands-on activities with some of the most respected names in clowning and physical theater.

The line up of seasoned artists will include:

  • Puppetry with Tyler Bunch, known for his work with the Jim Henson Company and Sesame Workshop;
  • Movement Training with Broken Box Mime Theater, experts in physical storytelling;
  • Clown Development with Michael Trautman, a master clown with decades of experience
  • Slapstick techniques with Joel Jeske, a leading practitioner of the classic comedy style

The program is designed to challenge and inspire participants, whether they’re just starting out in clowning or looking to refine their skills.

“This is a perfect fit,” said Glen Heroy, the Clown Skool’s founder and creative director, who is also a respected clown in the industry. “Coney Island USA is all about making people happy, and when people are happy, they laugh. At Clown Skool, we want to train people to keep that laughter going no matter what else is going on.”

Adam Rinn, artistic director of Coney Island USA, expressed his excitement about the program’s debut, calling it a natural extension of the arts organization’s unique offerings.

“When Glen approached me about starting a clown school here at Coney Island USA, I couldn’t say yes fast enough! It’s a perfect complement to the other courses we offer, including Sideshow School, where students learn to swallow swords and spit fire, and our burlesque classes. We’re thrilled to offer a space for Glen and his clown collective here at Coney.”
