BK Pup Saved By Emergency Care After Botched Ear Docking

Do not ear dock (or ear crop) your dog's ears, pleaded the nonprofit Angels of Mistreated Animals.

An eight-week-old puppy has been rescued after enduring a horrific botched ear-docking procedure.

Harry was brought to an emergency hospital in Brooklyn on June 20 with the initial complaint about an ear infection, according to a press release.

However, upon examination, the doctors discovered that his ears were severely infected and half-torn. It became evident that his pervious owners had attempted to dock his ears by cutting off the blood flow using a rubber band.

This method, which involved placing the band so tightly that the blood could not reach the end of the ears, caused severe deterioration.

This pursuit of a fashionable appearance nearly cost the dog's life. After the owners abandoned the pup at the emergency hospital, the veterinary clinic contacted the Angels for Mistreated Animals to take over the case financially. The emergency hospital needed to surgically remove one of Harry’s ears entirely and while the other ear is still delicate, the veterinarians are optimistic it will heal with proper care.

The nonprofit Angles for Mistreated Animals said Harry's story can raise awareness about the dangers of inhumane practices and the importance of responsible pet ownership.
