MTA Report: Subways Are Getting Safer for Commuters

Efforts to decrease subway crime include the deployment of members of the National Guard and additional police officers.

Recent data provided by the MTA suggests that subways are becoming safer, as the number of reported major felonies has declined month-over-month. The statistics indicate that major felonies, categorized as murder, rape, robbery, felony assault, burglary and grand larceny, decreased by approximately 20% from December 2024 to January 2025.
