DA Charges Brooklyn Man For Attacks Against Women in Flatlands, Midwood

Damally Cain, from East Flatbush, was arraigned on charges of attempted murder, assault, and other offenses after allegedly going on a violent spree on Aug. 18, 2024.

The office of Brooklyn Attorney Eric Gonzalez on Monday arraigned an East Flatbush man on charges of attempted murder, assault and other offenses after allegedly attacking two women in Flatlands.

Damally Cain, 24, is also facing a third-degree assault charge for allegedly attacking a third woman in Midwood earlier the same day, according to a press release.

“This defendant allegedly committed a series of terrifying and unprovoked attacks against multiple women, and my office is working diligently to ensure that he is no longer a danger to our community. We have no tolerance for this kind of random violence in Brooklyn," Gonzalez said in a statement.

According to the investigation, the attacks occurred on Aug. 18, 2024, beginning at approximately 4:42pm when Cain allegedly attacked a 66-year-old woman near East 40th Street and Hubbard Place. The defendant reportedly pulled the woman to the ground, punched and kicked her and slammed her head against the pavement. A bystander intervened and Cain fled, leaving behind personal items, including his passport and Social Security card.

Just minutes later, at 4:50pm, Cain allegedly assaulted a 35-year-old woman near 1707 Flatbush Ave., attempting to steal her phone and wallet. He reportedly ripped off the woman’s ponytail extension, threw a drink in her face and punched her.

The 66-year-old victim was treated at Mount Sinai for bruises and lacerations, while the 35-year-old victim refused medical attention at the scene.

Additionally, Cain faces a third-degree assault charge related to an earlier incident that day, in which he allegedly attacked a 52-year-old woman near 1608 Flatbush Ave. at around 4:30pm. Surveillance video captured the defendant pulling the woman to the ground, causing injuries to her elbow, knee and back.
