Brooklyn Man Receives 25-Year Sentence for Deadly Bed-Stuy Shooting

He pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter on April 17 of this year.

A Brooklyn man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for fatally shooting a man in Bed-Stuy in 2019. According to court documents, evidence shows that Darrien Weekes, 26, encountered Malik Russell, 29, outside of 519 Chauncey St. in June 2019. Weekes, Russell and a third man who has been named a co-defendant in the case, were having a conversation when Weekes suddenly took a gun out and shot Russell three times. Weekes was seen on surveillance cameras leaving and approaching the scene.
