Brooklyn Man Charged in Fatal Stabbing of Wife During Domestic Dispute

The teen son was also injured while attempting to protect his mother in their Canarsie home.

A Brooklyn man on Wednesday was arraigned on murder charges after allegedly stabbing his estranged wife to death in a domestic attack and injuring their teenage son, who tried to intervene.

Gordon Lewis, 45, of Canarsie, was charged with second-degree murder, endangering the welfare of a child, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, the office of Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a press release.

Lewis, who pleaded not guilty, is being held without bail and is scheduled to return to court on March 5. He faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted.

“This tragic case of domestic violence has left a family shattered—a woman’s life was taken, and her teenage son now bears the deep emotional scars of witnessing such a brutal act," said Gonzalez. "No family should ever have to suffer this kind of pain, and we are fully committed to seeking justice for them while holding those who commit gender-based violence accountable."

Authorities said the attack occurred on Dec. 22 at approximately 9:30pm at the family’s home on East 81st Street near Flatlands Avenue in Canarsie. Lewis, who had separated from his wife, Antoinette Stewart-Gordon, 47, allegedly became enraged after noticing a mark on her neck that he believed was a hickey.

Lewis reportedly began choking Stewart-Gordon, prompting their 15-year-old son to intervene. Prosecutors allege Lewis then retrieved a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Stewart-Gordon multiple times in the neck and body. The teen sustained a slash to his hand while trying to defend his mother and fled to an upstairs neighbor, who called 911.

Stewart-Gordon was transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The teenager was treated at the hospital and released.

Lewis turned himself in to authorities the following day.
