A Brooklyn firehouse honored several of its own on the 23rd anniversary of 9/11, one of many commemorations taking place across Brooklyn and New York City on Wednesday. Members of Engine Company 214 and Tower Ladder 111 in Bedford-Stuyvesant remembered five firefighters who were killed during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, when hijacked planes struck the World Trade Center, killing nearly 3,000 people and devastating the city. “This is a firehouse that is steeped in tradition,” Tower Ladder 111’s Steve McKinney told Brooklyn Paper.
