A Brooklyn doctor who sexually abused a patient at a Carroll Gardens clinic and later accessed her medical records illegally was sentenced to up to six years in prison on Wednesday.
Jamil Ibrahim, 56, of Sunset Park, was sentenced by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Phyllis Chu to two to six years in prison after being convicted in January of third-degree sexual abuse, third-degree burglary and computer trespass, according to a press release.
“This defendant used his power and stature as a doctor to victimize a vulnerable woman, which is an unconscionable betrayal," said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on March 18, 2018, when a 47-year-old woman sought treatment for a sinus infection at the Pro Health clinic on Court Street in Carroll Gardens. While examining the woman’s throat, Ibrahim pressed his erect penis against her inner knee and thigh area multiple times. The victim later reported the incident to police, and Ibrahim was arrested on April 22, 2018.
Following his arrest, Ibrahim was suspended from Pro Health and lost access to its clinics and medical records. However, on June 16, 2018, he entered a Pro Health clinic in Bensonhurst and unlawfully obtained copies of the victim’s medical records, authorities said.
During the trial, two additional women testified about separate incidents involving Ibrahim. A 39-year-old woman described an encounter from January 2014 at an urgent care clinic where Ibrahim allegedly placed a stethoscope under her clothing while simultaneously holding his hand on her breast. Another woman, then 23, testified that during a 2014 visit to CityMD for a leg bruise, Ibrahim asked if she was a stripper and caressed her upper thigh.
