What to Know About The NYC Half Marathon That Starts in Brooklyn

Watch out for the no parking zones and road closures for the 2025 United Airlines NYC Half that starts in Brooklyn on March 16.

For the first time in race history, runners in the 2025 United Airlines NYC Half will go over the Brooklyn Bridge on Sunday, March 16.

You'll see plenty of runners and their supporters in Brooklyn on Sunday, March 16, as the 2025 United Airlines NYC Half will start near the north end of Prospect Park.

More than 27,000 athletes will start near the Brooklyn Museum, go over the Brooklyn Bridge, a first for the race, and into Manhattan, up the FDR, through Times Square to finish in Central Park, according to a press release. 

The race will begin on Washington Avenue near the Brooklyn Museum before taking runners through Prospect Park. The first wave of runners will begin at 7:20am, followed by four more waves at 7:50am, 8:20am, 8:50am and 9:20am. 

The New York Road Runners, the organizer of the race, said there are multiple road closures in Brooklyn, starting from midnight on March 16:

  • Eastern Parkway (Grand Army Plaza to Bedford Avenue) – 12:00am to 10:30am
  • Eastern Parkway Service Road (Grand Army Plaza to Bedford Avenue) – 12:00am to 10:30am
  • Washington Avenue (Eastern Parkway to Empire Boulevard) – 12:00am to 4:00pm
  • Classon Avenue (Eastern Parkway to President Street) – 12:00am to 4:00pm
  • Union Street (Classon Avenue to Franklin Avenue) – 12:00am to 4:00pm
  • President Street (Classon Avenue to Franklin Avenue) – 12:00am to 4:00pm
  • Carroll Street (Washington Avenue to Franklin Avenue) – 12:00am to 4:00pm
  • Empire Boulevard (Flatbush Avenue to Bedford Avenue) – 4:00am to 10:30am
  • Sullivan Place (Washington Avenue to Bedford Avenue) – 4:00am to 11:30am
  • Flatbush Avenue (Eastern Parkway to Ocean Avenue/Empire Blvd – South Side) – 5:30am to 11:30am
  • Flatbush Avenue (Grand Army Plaza to Atlantic Avenue) – 5:30am to 11:30am
  • Flatbush Avenue (Atlantic Avenue to Tillary Street) – 5:30am to 11:45am
  • Tillary Street (Adams Street/Brooklyn Bridge Boulevard to Gold Street) – 5:30am to 12:00pm
  • Tillary Street (Cadman Plaza to Adams Street – Eastbound) – 5:30am to 12:00pm
  • Adams Street (Brooklyn Bridge Boulevard) (Fulton Street to Brooklyn Bridge – Northbound) – 5:30am to 12:00pm
  • Jay Street (Willoughby Street to Tillary Street – Northbound) – 5:30am to 12:00pm
  • Jay Street (Sands Street to Tillary Street – Southbound) – 5:30am to 12:00pm
  • Sands Street and Jay Street (Jay Street and Sand Street to Brooklyn Bridge – Westbound) – 5:30am to 12:00pm
  • Flatbush Avenue Extension (Flatbush Avenue to Concord Street – Southbound) – 5:30am to 12:00pm
  • Pearl Street from Prospect Street to Sand Street (Southbound) 5:30am to 12:00pm.

Exits 29B 29, 28A and 28B on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway will also be closed, but the times were not disclosed.  

No parking zones in Brooklyn, which start on Friday, March 14, are:

  • Eastern Parkway from Washington Avenue to Franklin Avenue- Friday 8:00pm to Sunday 4:00pm
  • Eastern Parkway from Grand Army Plaza/Plaza Street East to Franklin Avenue-  Friday 8:00pm to Sunday 4:00pm
  • Washington Avenue from Eastern Parkway to Empire Boulevard- Friday 8:00pm to Sunday 4:00pm
  • Classon Avenue from Eastern Parkway to President Street- Friday 8:00pm to Sunday 4:00pm
  • Union Street from Classon Avenue to Franklin Avenue-  Friday 8:00pm to Sunday 4:00 pm.
