Hospital officials say this investment reflects a broader commitment to meeting Brooklyn’s growing healthcare needs.

Heart patients in Brooklyn can now access advanced cardiology care in the borough, thanks to the expansion of NYU Langone Heart at the NYU Langone Hospital in Sunset Park.

The enhancement to the facility includes state-of-the-art catheterization laboratories and equipment the team will require to perform complex and life-saving procedures, according to a press release.

The expansion is in response to the longstanding inconvenience of traveling to Manhattan for advanced heart care, the hospital system said. The hospital has also hired renowned cardiac electrophysiologist Felix Yang, MD, his partners Yury Malyshev, MD and Thomas Bustros, MD, nurses and advanced practice providers.

“With heart disease being the leading cause of death in the United States, the expansion of our cardiac capabilities significantly improves our ability to provide advanced, world-class care right here in Brooklyn and continue to make an impactful difference in our patients’ lives,” Yang said.

Bret J. Rudy, MD, the hospital's executive vice president and chief of hospital operations said the expansion would ensure that critical healthcare is easily  accessible to those who need it most.

“Everyone at NYU Langone is driven by the goal of providing one consistently high standard of care at every location, every time. Part of that means ensuring access to highly specialized services right in their community, and that’s what we’re doing once again with NYU Langone Heart in Brooklyn,” Rudy said. "Now, Brooklynites can receive truly comprehensive cardiac care, including complex heart procedures, close to home.”
