Maimonides Health Hosts Motorcycle Ride For Breast Cancer Awareness

Over 100 motorcyclists joined the event on Oct. 16 to raise awareness for breast cancer treatment and research.

Maimonides Health held its 16th annual Ride 2 Live motorcycle event on Oct. 16 to raise awareness for breast cancer treatment and research at the Maimonides Breast Center, Brooklyn’s first fully accredited breast center.

The event, hosted in partnership with the Bikers of Brooklyn riding club, ganered the support of more than 100 motorcyclists who participated in a scenic, hourlong ride through Brooklyn, starting at the Maimonides Breast Center, according to a press release. 

The ride concluded with a celebratory afterparty at the Dyker Heights Golf Club.

Dr. Patrick Borgen, director of the Maimonides Breast Center and chair of surgery at Maimonides, emphasized the importance of early detection and the center’s role in supporting breast cancer patients during the ride.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who came out today in support of our mission of providing world-class breast cancer care here in Brooklyn,” Borgen said. “Events like these help us create more survivors by raising awareness of the importance of regular screenings, which allow us to identify this disease in its most treatable stage.”

The Ride 2 Live is part of Maimonides Health’s annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month programming. Earlier this month, the center’s Pink Runway fashion show, featuring breast cancer survivors, which raised nearly $650,000. The funds will be used to purchase new imaging equipment, increasing the center’s breast imaging capacity by 20%.
