You may have created a gingerbread house, but what about a gingerbread ship?

The Brooklyn Navy Yard, always excited to share its naval history with visitors, will be hosting the 7th Annual Gingerbread Ship Workshop for children ages 4 — 10 years on Saturday, December 15.

"This family workshop has become a beloved Navy Yard tradition," said David Ehrenberg, president and CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation. "We love seeing young children and their families learn about our site and how people from our community have worked here throughout the years."

The afternoon begins with an interactive tour of the Navy Yard's permanent exhibition "Brooklyn Navy Yard: Past, Present, and Future." During the tour, the "junior ship apprentices" get to learn about the different ships and ship-related jobs while exploring some of the Yard's most intriguing sites.

After a bit of fun history, kids and their parent chaperones move on to decorating. Everybody can help to build a large community gingerbread ship that will be on display in the lobby of BLDG 92 through the New Year. Kids will then work on decorating their own personal ship cookie with icing and candy.

To accompany decorating, hot chocolate will also be provided to spread holiday cheer!
