Brooklyn Navy Yard is holding a business incubator to support minority and female entrepreneurs create, develop and grow their companies — with a specific focus on those founded by African Americans.

The Yard received such a large volume of response to its request for expressions of interest for the inaugural Equaity Incubator, respondents will now have until January 15, 2021, to submit applications.

Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation President and CEO David Ehrenberg said the team at the Yard was heartened by the significant interest they'd received and he encouraged potential applicants to use the extra time to learn more about the Yard to tailor their applications accordingly.

The incubator will provide M/WBEs with the opportunity to leverage the resources, support and expertise available at the Yard for traditionally underserved demographics within the larger business community.

Interested applicants will partner with the team at the Yard to create the incubator, develop its programming and raise funds for its continued operation. Those selected will be given office and light industrial space to work within the Yard as part of the incubator.

The aim of the incubator is to provide the entrepreneurs with a unique opportunity to leverage Brooklyn's location at the center of the startup, innovation, manufacturing and tech sector universe, and the Brooklyn Navy Yard's tenant ecosystem and reputation as a mission-driven landlord.
