2022 General Election Results in Brooklyn: No Huge Upsets, as Hochul, James, Schumer and Malliotakis Maintain Seats

Still, some races were too close to call on election night, as Democrats and Republicans battled for control of Congress and state legislatures.

Several key races across the nation remained undecided hours after polls closed on election night in the battle over control of Congress. Republicans needed to pick up just five seats to flip the House and just one seat in the Senate. GOP candidates appeared poised to ride a wave of national anxiety around inflation and violence.

Even Democratic stronghold states found themselves playing defense, including in New York, after a Quinnipiac University poll showed the gubernatorial race between Kathy Hochul and Rep. Lee Zeldin had unexpectedly tightened weeks before the election.

So far, that red wave hasn't happened-- at least not as widely as predicted, and certainly not in New York, where Governor Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James and Senator Chuck Schumer all held onto their seats.

Nor were there any huge upsets across Brooklyn, where even Nicole Malliotakis, the GOP incumbent, also held onto her seat.

Still, some races in Brooklyn-- including the one for the newly carved 17th Congressional District between Republican Vito LaBella and Democrat Iwen Chu-- remain too close to call.
