Grubhub and The Greg Hill Foundation’s Restaurant Strong Fund announced $500,000 in grant opportunities to help NYC-based independent restaurants improve the environmental sustainability of their operations.
The grants are in response to the Department of Environmental Protection’s new legislation that aims to limit emissions from New York City's coal and wood-fired stoves, according to a news release.
Restaurants can apply for this grant by providing specific plans of how the funding was recently used or will be utilized, in addition how the renovation or installation will help lower emissions.
Grants of up to $5,000 will be available to restaurants who complete the application form and meet the following criteria:
- Must be an open restaurant that is currently operating in New York City.
- Must have recently updated (no earlier than January 1, 2024) or will soon update kitchen equipment that aims to improve environmental sustainability, including reducing the restaurant’s carbon footprint through emissions reduction.
- Must provide a detailed plan of how the grant will be used and how funding will help make operations more environmentally friendly.
Applications will be open from now until May 31, 2024 and grant recipients will be awarded funding on a rolling basis. Click here for more information.
