An audit from New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer's office shows the Human Rights Commission resolved less than half of the complaints- 291 of 593 - it received within the commission's one-year deadline and even had errors and inaccuracies in its database, the Daily News reports.
Stringer's office found that the rest of the cases took an average of 427 days to fully investigate and close, and there were even 18 complaints that took more than three years to close.
"Every day that a human rights case sits in a pile of files is another day that someone in our city is experiencing a violation of their individual rights," Stringer said.
