Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and the Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival (NYCWFF) will send 100 Brooklyn high school students to this year’s FoodieCon, an event featuring influential culinary and beverage industry professionals.

The students at John Dewey High School’s Business and Culinary Academy, who run "JD’s Place," an experiential learning restaurant that provides hands-on experience in running a fine-dining restaurant business, will head to food festival this weekend, according to a press release.

The selected students will have access to panel discussions including about the business of food content creation.

“Brooklyn has some of the best restaurants not just in New York City but in the world. Innovative Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs like the one at John Dewey High School allow our kids to get ahead of the curve and gain first-hand experience in all aspects of the culinary arts industry. Our partnership with the New York City Wine & Food Festival will further set these students up for success by providing access to the best chefs, entrepreneurs and influencers in the business," said Reynoso.

NYCWFF will run from Oct.17–20 with over 80 events, including the Grand Tasting, which showcases hundreds of wine makers and distillers, to be held at the Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park.

“We are so grateful to our Brooklyn Borough President, Antonio Reynoso, and the New York City Wine & Food Festival for offering our students a unique opportunity to broaden their horizons,” said Heather Adelle, the principal of John Dewey High School. “It serves as an immersive educational experience, helping to connect our students with professionals and expanding their knowledge beyond the classroom, while fostering a passion for lifelong learning.”

Angelina Lorenzana, a student at John Dewey High School in Gravesend, said the school's culinary program allows her to explore many aspects of the food world through various experiences outside the school.

"This program inspires young chefs like myself to be the foodie that I am and is helping my dreams become my reality,” she said.
