Bednark Studio, a design and manufacturing firm specializing in building commercial live events, has signed a 10-year lease for a 62,000-square-foot production space at the Brooklyn Navy Yard's Building 28.

Currently based in Bushwick, the studio will open its new manufacturing and operations headquarters at the Yard on July 1. The new location will allow Bednark to triple its production capacity and create 65 additional jobs, the company's CEO stated.

"We've been committed to Brooklyn since our inception, moving from Gowanus to Bushwick as we've grown," said Michael Bednark, founder and CEO of Bednark Studio. "For our latest expansion, we saw obvious potential with the Navy Yard. They've shown impressive growth, and it checks key boxes for us: The location, the amenities, and we see added potential in their new tenants over the past few years."

Founded in 2007, Bednark Studio specializes in designing and manufacturing retail displays, immersive commercial experiences, custom vehicles and high-end interior millwork for homes and offices. Its client list comprises marketing agencies, architectural firms and consumer brands like Nike, Google, MoMA Design Store and Ralph Lauren.

The move, according to Bednark, will accommodate the growth of the studio's 75-person team by adding programmers, project managers, craftsmen and art directors.

"It's a dream opportunity. To be able to expand our team, increase our output and broaden our capabilities, all under one roof and in the heart of New York City and all its talent," said Bednark.

Additionally, the studio will utilize the space to upgrade its manufacturing process with new production machinery and robotics.

Building 28, Bednark's new home, is one of four buildings comprising the Green Manufacturing Center, which was constructed between 1891 and 1941, and formerly housed the fabrication and assembly of marine engines for the U.S. Navy. From 2012 to 2015, the buildings underwent major renovations.

"We are thrilled to welcome Bednark to the Brooklyn Navy Yard as they look to grow their business and create quality, accessible, middle-class jobs right here in Brooklyn," said David Ehrenberg, president and CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation. "Bednark is the latest example of the Yard attracting cutting edge manufacturing companies looking to expand in New York City."
