A lottery for affordable apartments at a new Gowanus development — located at 420 Carroll Street — officially opened to the public this week.
The lottery will offer 90 affordable units out of a total 360 apartments in the development, aimed at Brooklyn families that earn between 40% and 100% of the area median income, according to a press release.
The rent for studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments range from $784 to $3,298 per month.
Spearheaded by real estate developer The Domain Companies, 420 Carroll began construction back in May 2022, marking it as the first residential development through the Gowanus Neighborhood Rezoning plan that was approved back in 2021.
The project features a 21-story and 16-story tower, both of which offer a variety of housing options, ranging from studio to three-bedroom apartments.
The pair of apartment properties are connected by a subterranean tunnel that provides access to amenities for residents of both buildings.
Among the planned amenities include a 14,000 square-foot coworking and art studio space, a fitness center, a children's playroom, as well as multiple outdoor green spaces (including a public plaza).
In addition to the amenities, the development also utilizes more sustainable-friendly features, such as Wi-Fi-enabled induction stoves, a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system (to control temperatures in different areas of apartments), electric vehicle charging stations and more.
“With all the apartments at 420 Carroll inspired by the character of Gowanus, we are excited to offer affordable homes equipped with state-of-the-art amenities and sustainable design features to the community,” said Matt Schwartz, co-chief executive officer of The Domain Companies. “We are grateful to be a part of this era of growth in Gowanus and look forward to seeing our vibrant residential community grow as a result of the lottery.”
Move-ins for the Gowanus apartment development are anticipated to start sometime in fall 2024, according to the press release.
