School is out and it's summer, Brooklyn! New York City public pools open for the summer season today, June 27.
Outdoor pool hours are from 11:00am through 7:00pm daily, with a break for pool cleaning between 3:00pm and 4:00pm.
The city's pools have many rules, including only white shirts allowed on the deck, and no floaties for younger children in the large pools. You can read about the rules here.
There are also plenty of free programs, which include adaptive swim classes for people with disabilities, adult aquatic classes and youth swim teams, which you can check out here.
The city recently announced plans to invest $1 billion over the next five years to building, improving and protecting the city's pool system.
“New York City’s pools and beaches are incredible places for New Yorkers to come together, learn to swim, and beat the heat — and as climate change makes heat waves like this week’s more common and more severe, the need for pools has never been greater,” Mayor Eic Adams said on June 18.
