Boasting over 100 shows with dynamic artists from all genres, New York City's Summerstage returns from May 16th to September 23rd. The series sprawls across 15 neighborhood parks throughout New York City and it serves as the largest free performing arts festival in the area. With roots dating back as far as 30 years ago, the festival always employs a theme that sets the tone of the festivities.
In 2013, Summerstage was centered on hip-hop music and culture whereas in 2014, the performances featured Latin music. This year the City Parks Foundation was excited to announce that they will feature jazz artists and performances. While the jazz theme illustrates the type of musical performances individuals and families can expect, it's important to note that there are a plethora of activities to choose from.
Artists will present performances of American pop, Yiddish Soul, Taiwanese music, dancing, comedy and even theater. In addition, this year the festival welcomes Comedy Central back to their stages for an exciting, laugh filled evening of stand-up from The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
