Summerstage: New York's Largest Free Performing Arts Festival

Boasting over 100 shows with dynamic artists from all genres, New York City's Summerstage returns from May 16th to September 23rd.

Boasting over 100 shows with dynamic artists from all genres, New York City's Summerstage returns from May 16th to September 23rd.  The series sprawls across 15 neighborhood parks throughout New York City and it serves as the largest free performing arts festival in the area.  With roots dating back as far as 30 years ago, the festival always employs a theme that sets the tone of the festivities.

In 2013, Summerstage was centered on hip-hop music and culture whereas in 2014, the performances featured Latin music.   This year the City Parks Foundation was excited to announce that they will feature jazz artists and performances.  While the jazz theme illustrates the type of musical performances individuals and families can expect, it's important to note that there are a plethora of activities to choose from.

Artists will present performances of American pop, Yiddish Soul, Taiwanese music, dancing, comedy and even theater.   In addition, this year the festival welcomes Comedy Central back to their stages for an exciting, laugh filled evening of stand-up from The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.

"At City Parks Foundation, we believe culture should be convenient and affordable for everyone. Our SummerStage festival removes the barriers to culture, bringing world-class artists, topical and popular, to neighborhood parks across all five boroughs, free of charge," said Heather Lubov, Executive Director of City Parks Foundation.

Music enthusiasts can agree that a festival with a wide range of artists can often come with ticket prices that can leave parents cringing.  Summerstage bridges the gap between New York City's diverse pubic and the artists that wish to reach them.  The jam packed schedule is presented by Capital One as they agree that affordable access to performances is a great benefit to the New York City community.

"Capital One is proud to once again support SummerStage as it celebrates New York's creativity," said Michael Slocum, President, Commercial Banking and Northeast Regional President, Capital  One. "The arts build communities and enrich lives, and this remarkable festival embodies our commitment to investing for good in the diverse communities where our associates live and work."

Living jazz legends McCoy Tyner, Ron Carter, and Roy Haynes will kick off the festival in Central Park on June 4 in what is sure to be a summer long sensation.  For more information, visit this link.
