NYC DOT Seeks Artists, Performers For Expanded Summer Streets 2025

The NYC Department of Transportation is calling on artists and community groups to submit proposals for installations and activities at Summer Streets events. Applications are open through April 27 for artists and June 6 for programming partners.

The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) has opened a call for artists and programming partners to help shape Summer Streets 2025.

Summer Streets, an annual event that transforms miles of city streets into car-free public spaces, will take place on select Saturdays from morning to afternoon, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy the city's open streets while stopping at designated rest areas offering free activities, according to a press release.

NYC DOT Art is inviting professional artists to submit proposals, via this link, for temporary art installations along the event’s route. Selected artwork will be displayed as one-day installations on all five event dates.

The agency’s newly launched Summer Streets Art Interventions Request for Proposals (RFP) allows for up to two artists to be chosen, with project funding up to $20,000. Large-scale installations spanning all seven locations across five weekends may be eligible for up to $50,000. The submission deadline is April 27 at 11:59pm.

“There is nothing quite like summertime in New York City, and Summer Streets is our flagship celebration of this city, its people and our public space," said DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. “I encourage every artist, performer, and community-based organization to submit a proposal and help us make this year’s event another unforgettable experience.”

The department is also seeking performers, fitness professionals, nonprofit organizations and community groups to provide programming for the event. Applicants must outline the type of activity they will offer, materials needed and their preferred boroughs. The deadline for programming partner applications is June 6.
