The New York Science Fiction Film Festival announced their full programming for their fourth festival, with a lineup of films, discussions, virtual realty and competitions to take place on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Stuart Cinema and Cafe in Greenpoint.

Founded in 2017, the festival celebrates the freedom of expression and the unique approaches of independent filmmakers as a merit to the science fiction, horror, supernatural and fantasy genres, according to a press release.

“As our world becomes progressively technological, we need to find ways to protect our humanity, and the best way is through storytelling,” Daniel Abella, the founder of the festival, said. “What was regarded as speculative years ago has now become fact, and this is the perfect medium to address the plethora of the issues we face.”

In addition to film and virtual reality screenings, the festival will hold screenplay and graphic novel competitions.

“The festival serves as a platform for rising talent, and writing is the beating heart of any good movie,” said Abella.

Short film packages will play throughout the day, starting with The Dark Side of Eden, a selection of 12 short films, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, followed by the Future Shock package, a selection of 13 shorts, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

The feature presentations of the film festival include the New York premiere of The Coldness (2024) and Red Earth (2022), with question and answer periods to follow.

All shorts will be streamed online on Sunday, September 15. For more information on the full schedule and passes, visit https://www.newyorksci-fifest.com.
