Various acclaimed artists will grace the stage at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) throughout the winter/spring 2025 season.
Sponsored by Bloomberg Philanthropies, BAM will host new artists and returning favourites including Rebecca Frecknall, Oscar nominee Paul Mescal, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Batsheva Dance Company, who will treat guests to musical performances, theater, poetry, opera and music, according to a press release.
"We hope that all who join us this season will experience promise through performance, lifted spirits, challenged perceptions, and art's transformative power through the lens of bold, colorful artistry,” said BAM Artistic Director Amy Cassello. “All of these fresh, agile works poignantly reflect our present time. BAM is proud to amplify the voices of artists who navigate risky terrain everyday.”
Fans of Frecknall will enjoy her revival of Tennessee Williams’s A Streetcar Named Desire starring Mescal (Gladiator II, Aftersun, All of Us Strangers); Barrie Kosky’s urgent, seductive Berliner Ensemble staging of The Threepenny Opera, Brecht and Weill’s savage critique of capitalism; and Macbeth in Stride, Whitney White’s R&B-soaked recasting of Lady Macbeth as a powerful Black female icon.
British composer and pianist Max Richter will serenade guests will perform his beloved album and his newest work in an exclusive local engagement. Through DanceAfrica, guests will travel to Mozambique in an exhilarating annual celebration.
A family-friendly line-up will also feature an exciting new family performance for young children, including Gimme Please!, BAMkids Celebrates MLK: If You Can't Be the Sun, Be a Star! and BAMkids Film Festival in nurturing emerging artists.
