Tanya Weddemire Gallery kicks off 2025 with its first exhibition of the year, I Got a Story to Tell, a powerful tribute to Black womanhood in honor of Black History Month.
The exhibit, which runs from Feb. 1 to March 8, features the works of four female artists: Blu Murphy, Brittney S. Price, Kaylyn Webster and Lex Marie, according to a press release.
The exhibition showcases a variety of mediums, including acrylic on canvas, mixed-media collage, textiles and panel works, all exploring themes of love, pride, resilience, and identity. The exhibition is curated by Tatianna Mack, the gallery’s Art Liaison, marking her curatorial debut and sets the tone for an exciting year of dynamic programming.
I Got a Story to Tell is a celebration of Black women’s stories, expressed through intricate compositions and evocative materials and centers on themes about love, pride, resilience, and the rich complexities of identity, with each piece a testament to the power of art as a vessel for preserving and amplifying the voices of Black women across generations.
The exhibit is inspired by conversations Mack shared with her maternal grandmother, Etta Mack Johnson, who recounted her life experiences and their family’s enduring legacy. These narratives underscore the exhibition’s focus on collective memory and shared journeys.
“I want viewers to experience and honor the powerful traditions of storytelling leaving with a feeling of empowerment and deeper appreciation for the voices that often go unheard," said Mack.
The Tanya Weddemire Gallery, located in Industry City, showcases both emerging and established artists.
