Liberty's Jonquel Jones Named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week

 Jones' 10-point first quarter on July 23 helped set the all-time WNBA record for most points scored in a single quarter.

Jonquel Jones, New York Liberty center, has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. The Women's National Basketball Association made the announcement for games played from Tuesday, July 18 to Sunday, July 23.

This weekly honor is Jones’ 13th of her career as a member of the Eastern Conference and the 52nd all-time in Liberty history. Jones' 10-point first quarter on July 23 helped set the all-time WNBA record for most points scored in a single quarter. The high score is now set at 44.

On July 21, the 2021 MVP totaled a season-high of 27 points on 71.4% (10-14) shooting from the field, including 40% (2-5) from three, a season-high-tying 11 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks.

Jones has averaged 18.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game while converting on a combined 63.6% (21-33) from the field, 53.8% (7-13) from three, and 100% (7-7) at the free throw line in her most recent contests. 

Jonquel finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 54.5% (6-11) from the field and 57.1% (4-7) from deep, marking her second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season.

Over the past two contests, Jones is averaging 11.5 first-quarter points with a shooting split of 80% (8-10) from the field and 100% (4-4) from three.
