Head to The Caribbean Time Capsule Festival at the BK Children's Museum on June 29

The all-day event will feature interactive dance, storytelling and art-making workshops.

Join the Brooklyn Children’s Museum and I AM CARIBBEING at the Little Caribbean Time Capsule on June 29, a day-long festival celebrating the cultural richness of the Caribbean.

From 10:00am to 5:00pm, visitors can enjoy a variety of interactive events, including dance, storytelling, food, music and art-making workshops, according to a news release.

Programs throughout the day will include dance classes, a Caribbean fruits program, a street naming workshop, storytelling, and culminates in a fête on the rooftop of the museum.

“We are thrilled to partner with I AM CARIBBEING to present Little Caribbean Time Capsule, a celebration that captures the rich heritage of the Caribbean. As someone who was born in St. Vincent, I am always pleased to see Caribbean culture celebrated in such a meaningful way,” said Atiba T. Edwards, president and chief executive officer of the Brooklyn Children's Museum.

Color ah Fruit

11:00am to 11:30am

Embark on a sensory journey through the delectable world of Caribbean fruits! Guided by illustrations from "Trees of Little Caribbean," now on view at Brooklyn Botanic Garden, participants will engage in discussions about cherished recipes, fond memories of life back home, and the bustling local markets that have shaped their culinary identities.

Name ah Street

11:45am to 12:15pm

Discover into the importance of street names as a reflection of community vision and cultural heritage. Create your own street names and signs that resonate with our shared heritage and aspirations for the future.

Be Caribbeing Dance

12:15pm to 12:45pm and 2:15pm to 2:45pm

Step into the world of Caribbean dance! Get on your feet and learn the dynamic movements and infectious rhythms inspired by the diverse cultures of the islands.

Storytime with Glasmine Scully

1:00pm to 1:30pm

Experience the enchanting world of Caribbean storytelling as author Glasmine Scully reads from her book, Ebony Locks and the Star Apple Tree. Join Ebony Locks on an exciting adventure through the lush Jamaican countryside and learn the importance of determination and bravery while exploring into the rich tapestry of Afro-Jamaican folklore and cultural traditions.

Little Caribbean Time Capsule

1:45pm to 2:15pm

Capture and preserve this moment in time by creating your very own time capsule! Using a fun fill-in-the-blank zine, children will answer engaging questions about their present and future, draw pictures, and record their height and hand prints. Once completed, they’ll assemble everything into a personalized time capsule to be stored and opened in the future.

Rooftop Fête

3:00pm to 5:00pm

Join us on our rooftop for an all-ages Caribbean-style party! With music filling the air, delicious food to indulge in, and a vibrant ambience, this fête offers the perfect opportunity for generations to come together, dance, mingle, and create unforgettable memories in an atmosphere of celebration and togetherness.
