Brooklyn’s biggest celebration of local artists, Gowanus Open Studios is returning for its 27th year. On the weekend of October 21, join Arts Gowanus in exploring more than 350 artists and 70 venues in the greater Gowanus neighborhood. Artists will be on hand to discuss their work, share their processes, and showcase their latest projects.
Gowanus Open Studios will feature venues and studios from Pacific St. to 19th St. and from Smith St. to 5th Ave. More than 8,000 printed maps will be distributed across the neighborhood to help visitors navigate the area. Visitors can also explore series of artist-curated self-guided tours or pick up a digital map at artsgowanus.org.
The Gowanus Open Studios kick-off party will take place at Gemini & Scorpio on Friday, October 20, with a brass band parade and Gowanus Open Studios will close up the weekend at the Gowanus Dredgers on Sunday evening with opera performances.
Many Gowanus artists have recently faced devastating flood damage in their studios, especially at 540 President St., where Arts Gowanus is headquartered. This event will showcase and celebrate the resilience of our creative community. If you would like to donate directly to artists affected by the floods please go to gofundme.com.
