The Bushwick Film Festival has announced that it will be returning to once again wow moviegoers on Oct. 25-29 at Williamsburg Cinemas.
As part of the annual Brooklyn film fest’s 16th anniversary, the theme of this year’s event is “Sweet Sixteen.”
Inspired by the age that is attributed to personal growth and self-discovery, the Bushwick Film Festival says that this year’s event will focus on themes that revolve around the exploration and embracement of one’s passage into life’s next chapter — but through a cinematic lens.
The selected films this year were all picked by the Bushwick Film Festival for their respective ability to embody relevant narratives such as coming-of-age, self-realization, as well as the quest for personal freedom.
“Turning 16 traditionally symbolizes growth and discovery, but these transformative moments are not bound by age,” said Kweighbaye Kotee, founder of the Bushwick Film Festival.
“We find defining moments at every juncture and during every transition. As we usher in the 16th Bushwick Film Festival, we're celebrating more than just cinema; we're embracing the journey, the lessons, and the stories that have brought us here. Here's to life’s defining chapters and the many stories that intertwine with them.”
Throughout its 16-year history, the Bushwick Film Festival has showcased the work of nearly 1000 independent filmmakers from Brooklyn and over 50 different countries.
This year, more than 125 films will be screened for audiences at Williamsburg Cinemas. By the end of the five-day event, the festival will honor around 10 filmmakers with awards representing various categories such as Best Feature (Narrative/Doc), Best Short (Doc/Narrative), Best Web Series, and more.
In addition to the roster of films that Brooklynites can check out, the festival will also host several other events over the five days, including an red carpet reception at Brooklyn Borough Hall, a sweet 16 party at Lot 45, as well as a movie industry conference at Be Electric Studios — which will offer insightful panel discussions and networking opportunities for filmmakers and other industry professionals.
