Programming for Indigenous Peoples’ Day at Brooklyn Children’s Museum includes storytelling, live music, dance performances, food demonstrations, an artist marketplace and art-making.

The Brooklyn Children’s Museum (BCM) will celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day this year with a two-day event on Oct. 13 and 14 with various activities, storytelling and music.

The event, held in collaboration with the North American Indigenous Center of New York (NAIC-NY), will take place between 10:00am and 5:00pm on both days, in honor of Indigenous peoples and their cultural traditions, according to a press release.

“This event provides an opportunity for children and families to learn directly from Native artists and cultural leaders,” said Atiba T. Edwards, president and chief executive officer of Brooklyn Children’s Museum. “At BCM, we foster respect, understanding and appreciation for the diverse communities of our borough, offering young people an immersive experience in the art, history and customs of their own cultural traditions and those of their neighbors.”

The day's activities include:

  • Storytelling sessions and dance performances, with highlights such as a hoop dance performance by The Northeastern Haudenosaunee Dance Troupe
  • Hands-on food demonstrations showcasing how to make traditional strawberry (ken'niiohontésha) drinks
  • Craft workshops where participants can engage in beadwork, corn husk doll making, and terra cotta pottery
  • A Native artisans marketplace located on the BCM rooftop

Tickets for the event are priced at $15 for general admission, $14 for grandparents and free for children under one year old. General admission includes access to all performances, workshops and exhibitions throughout the museum.
