Haitian-American chef and author Nadège Fleurimond is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the publication of her cookbook Haiti Uncovered: A Regional Adventure into the Art of Haitian Cuisine with an updated second edition.
With a blend of traditional recipes, captivating storytelling and vibrant imagery, the book offers a unique journey into the heart of Haitian cuisine, according to a news release. Chef Fluerimond runs BunNan, a food stall in the Flatbush Central Caribbean Marketplace.
The second edition introduces new recipes reflecting the evolving tastes and influences in Haitian cooking, as well as a foreword penned by Haitian-American author Edwidge Danticat. Danticat's reflections add depth and context to Fleurimond's exploration of Haitian culinary traditions, offering readers a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of the recipes featured in the book.
"I am thrilled to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Haiti Uncovered with this second edition," said Fleurimond. "This book has always been a labor of love, and it is incredibly rewarding to see it resonate with readers across the globe. With the addition of new recipes and the refined text, I hope to continue sharing the vibrant flavors and stories of Haitian cuisine with a new generation of food enthusiasts."
The launch event at Manhattan's Times Center on May 25 will be a celebration of Haitian culture, cuisine and community. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Nadège Fleurimond, sample delicious Haitian dishes inspired by the book and take home signed copies of Haiti Uncovered.
