The pop-up event series Sounds Like Fun, a vibrant mix of culinary and cultural experiences, arrives at Prospect Park’s Lefferts Historic House on Sunday, Nov. 3.

Running from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, the event, brought to you by art curator, DJ and journalist Dick Burroughs, will feature a unique National Sandwich Day celebration highlighted by a sandwich-making competition with an impressive roster of contestants, according to a press release.

Local sandwich aficionados—including Vixon Johnson, Z From Africa, Your Favorite Cousins, and Vixon John (known as "The Sammich Hunter")—will present signature sandwich creations, offering samples that capture their culinary flair.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own sandwiches to share with friends and can also “kick up” their sandwiches at a special “sauce bar” curated by the Brooklyn Made Store, adding a personalized twist to each bite.

An eclectic panel of judges spanning food, culture, and public service will evaluate the sandwiches. Among them is Ben “Moody” Harney, founder of MotherShuckers, the celebrated oyster brand featured at the James Beard Foundation’s Market 57 and in major publications like The New York Times and Edible Brooklyn. Also judging is Tonya Hopkins, aka “The Food Griot,” a food historian known for appearances on the Food Network and ABC’s The View. Rounding out the panel is Tremaine Wright, Chairwoman of the NYS Cannabis Control Board.

The event will also include “So Boom, Check It” storytelling platform, inviting attendees to share real-life stories from the 1990s and early 2000s, a nod to the days before social media transformed personal narratives. DJ Dick Burroughs and DJ Box will add to the atmosphere, spinning open-format sets on the Lefferts Historic House porch, blending music with storytelling and culinary creativity.

Brace yourself for an afternoon of community, creativity, and flavors—all in the spirit of Brooklyn’s rich cultural tapestry.
