El Puente, a youth-led arts and human rights organization, in partnership with digital justice organization Community Tech NY, officially opened the doors to New York City's first Community Tech Lab. The Tech Lab is in the Southside of Williamsburg.

"The Community Tech Lab will be a vital resource for our community, providing Brooklyn residents with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in today’s digital world," said El Puente Executive Director Marco A. Carrión.

"This lab is a testament to our commitment to bridge the digital divide by empowering our community."

The lab will begin hosting a Digital Stewards program. The program will train community members to build their own internet networks and engage in community organizing around digital justice.

“Digital equity and technology have been very important topics to me," Oscar Communidad, the first youth Digital Steward who will be leading this new effort, said.

“To me, technology is a means to an end that we at this point cannot live without. I came to this realization during the pandemic after seeing just how many people were unprepared for the switch to a digital world.”

The Community Tech Lab is located at El Puente's headquarters at 211 South 4th St. in Brooklyn and will be open to the public regularly.
