The Brooklyn Children's Museum is celebrating the completion of its' $7.8 million auditorium renovation with the start of a new children's film series, Movies @ BCM. The series will start with a minions movie marathon.

NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) Commissioner Laurie Cumbo, NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) Deputy Commissioner Salvatore Cali, Jr. and Brooklyn Children’s Museum (BCM) President and CEO Stephanie Wilchfort joined elected officials and members of the community today to celebrate the renovation.

“As the mother of a young son and a longtime lover of Brooklyn Children’s Museum, I could not be happier to help cut the ribbon on this gorgeous new theater space in the heart of Crown Heights,” said DCLA Commissioner Laurie Angela Cumbo.

“We’re committed to providing extraordinary cultural spaces in communities across all five boroughs, and expanding opportunities for young people and their families to connect with our city’s remarkable arts and cultural offerings. Thank you to our partners at the museum, at DDC, and across the City for joining us to get this project done.”

The new auditorium will host the museum’s after school program. The space can also host movies, music and theatre performances, lectures and educational programming. There will also be opportunities for the public to rent the space.

The auditorium now features upgraded heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. As well as new lighting, electrical, sound and audio-visual systems. Fire protection has also been upgraded.

The auditorium has a new stage along with 162 seats. There are six accessible seats on the main floor and 12 on the mezzanine.

“Brooklyn Children’s Museum is thrilled to be opening this beautiful new auditorium and move theater to serve children and caregivers. It’s especially wonderful to open this space just as the weather turns colder and Central Brooklyn families seek indoor activities,” said BCM President and CEO Stephanie Hill Wilchfort.

As part of today’s ribbon cutting ceremony, the Brooklyn Children's Museum will launch Movies @ BCM. This will start with a minions movie marathon, hosting five consecutive weeks of films. Movies @ BCM will offer popular family films every weekend and on school holidays. For more information, click here.
