Concerns about transitional housing for the formerly incarcerated are still a matter of heated contention for local community advocates and organizations and was a topic of discussion at the Flatlands Civic Group, Inc. (FCG) Zoom meeting on November 18th.

Guest speaker Gerard Brewster, President of Utica to Flatbush Initiatives, told civic members that a halfway house was started earlier this year in what was supposed to be a hotel at the Holiday Inn Express located at 5244 Kings Highway.

He said that the hotel is located in a tract of land called the Flatlands/Fairfield Industrial Business Zone, established during Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s time to bring commercial businesses in to revitalize the community.
