With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s time to start pulling out those winter recipes and getting ready for a day of gravy and tight waist belts.

After last year’s celebrations were limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic, family get togethers are once again on the menu for many thanks to COVID-19 vaccines, and organizations across Brooklyn want to make sure no Brooklyn families miss out on a full traditional meal.

Here are 9 giveaways happening this week across our Brooklyn neighborhoods:

Flatbush: Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens Brooklyn Turkey Giveaway

St. Francis of Assisi – St. Blaise, 400 Lincoln Road

9:30am, Tuesday, Nov. 16 (tickets handed out at 8:00am)

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens will distribute turkeys tomorrow in Flatbush to support families during Thanksgiving. Recipients are required to wear a mask, be prepared to social distance, be prepared to wait outside, and bring a shopping cart for the distribution. Turkeys will be served on a first come first served basis to those who have tickets.

Bed-Stuy: Turkey Giveaway & Wellness Wednesday Resource Fair

Restoration Plaza, 1360 Fulton Street

10:30am, Wednesday, Nov. 17

Councilmember Robert Cornegy, Jr. with Slate Property Group, Shelter Rock Builders, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, ADAPT Community Network, Brooklyn Adult Learning Center and The Campaign Against Hunger is hosting a turkey and grocery giveaway at Restoration Plaza on Wednesday.

Canarsie: HelloFresh, The Campaign Against Hunger and New York State Division of Veterans’ Services Turkey Giveaway

The Campaign Against Hunger Warehouse, 744 Berriman Street

9:30am-noon, Wednesday, Nov. 17

Meal-kit company, HelloFresh, emergency food and community support organization, The Campaign Against Hunger and New York State Division of Veterans’ Services (DVS) want to support veterans, military families and other residents in New York City who are experiencing food insecurity this holiday season by giving out 1,000 turkeys and 1,000 boxes of sides, including cranberries, yukon, sweet potatoes, apples and squash.

Bed-Stuy: Richard Beavers Gallery 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway

Richard Beavers Gallery, 408 Marcus Garvey Blvd

10:am-1:00pm, Sunday, Nov. 21

Richard Beavers Gallery will hold its 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway on Sunday, distributing turkeys to the first 300 families who turn up. The giveaway is for Brooklyn residents only, and only one turkey per address is available. Turkeys will be distributed on a first come basis and ID & Masks are required.

Crown Heights: Sen. Zellnor Myrie’s Crown Heights Turkey Giveaway

Miller Evangelical Christian Union Church, 1110 President St.

3:00pm, Friday, Nov. 19

State Senator Zellnor Myrie will be holding a turkey giveaway on a first come first served basis at Miller Evangelical Christian Union Church in Crown Heights in partnership with Medgar Evers College, The Campaign Against Hunger and Impacct Brooklyn.

Bed-Stuy: The Brooklyn Bank 4th Annual Turkey Giveaway

The Brooklyn Bank, 896 Dekalb Ave.

12:00pm until supplies last, Sunday, Nov. 21

On Sunday, The Brooklyn Bank will be hosting the 4th installment of its Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway where it will hand out turkeys and groceries to Brooklyn families. It is advising people to line up early and bring a shopping cart. To register for the giveaway, email donations@thebrooklynbank.com.

Bushwick: NYSoM ThanksgivingPalooza

Mayday Space, 176 St. Nicholas Ave.

2:00pm-4:00pm, Saturday, Nov. 20

NYSoM’s 4th annual ThanksgivingPalooza will provide free turkeys and other Thanksgiving food on a first come, first served basis this Saturday at Mayday Space.

Bay Ridge: Bay Ridge Community Development Center’s 2nd Annual Turkey Giveaway

11:00am, Saturday, Nov. 20

Bay Ridge Community Development Center’s will hold its 2nd Annual Turkey Giveaway alongside its Fresh Produce Giveaway on Saturday at its Fort Hamilton Parkway center.

Brownsville: Bright Light Baptist Church Turkey Giveaway

1676 Park Place

12:00pm Monday, Nov. 22

Assemblymember Latrice Walker will be handing out food and turkeys at Bright Light Baptist Church on Monday at noon. To reserve a turkey, call 718-342-1256.

Fort Greene: Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership Turkey Giveaway

NYCHA’s Atlantic Terminal, Farragut, Whitman & Ingersoll Houses, and local supportive housing

Fort Greene Fresh Pantry, Saturday, Nov. 20

Families who live in local NYCHA developments — Atlantic Terminal, Farragut, Whitman & Ingersoll Houses, and in local supportive housing — can get one of 900 turkeys and free holiday groceries being distributed by Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership this Saturday. For more information, click here.

New Utrecht: Reaching-Out Community Services’ Operation Gobbler Give – Brooklyn

Reaching-Out Community Services, 7708 New Utrecht Avenue

12:00pm-2:00pm, Monday, Nov. 22

Reaching-Out Community Services will be giving out free turkeys and Thanksgiving trimmings to 500 families who are already registered with its food program. For more information, click here.
