A 16-year-old boy was killed in a gunfight in East New York on Tuesday, police say.

The teenager was standing with a group outside the Fiorentino Houses at the intersection of Miller and Pitkin Avenues just after 1:20pm when a gunman approached and started firing at the group, hitting the victim in the torso, AMNY reports.

A member of the boy’s group then returned fire on the gunman, but the shot ended up hitting the victim in the head.

The 16-year-old was rushed to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, police say.

The police are notifying the boy’s family before releasing his identity.
