Proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test will now be required for festival-goers wanting to join in on BRIC's Celebrate Brooklyn events.

The negative COVID-19 test needs to be taken within 72 hours of entry.

The arts and media organization announced the new policy on Monday, saying it will go into effect this Thursday, August 19.

Organizers said the decision came after music festivals across the country, include New York's SummerStage, rolled out similar protocols due to the increase in COVID-19 cases and the rise of the Delta variant.

"While BRIC remains committed to creating open and accessible musical experiences for all of New York City, we must also ensure the safety of our staff, our audiences and the communities that we serve," Lia Camille Crockett, executive producer of the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, said.

"We wholeheartedly believe that coming together for live cultural events is one of the most important ways for us to heal and move forward. This extra layer of protection is what we need right now to create an environment that is safe for us all."

People aged 2-12 who are unable to be vaccinated do not have to present a negative test to attend, but must remain masked at all times at the free festival shows, organizers said. Some ticketed benefit shows have a different testing policy, which can be found on individual show pages.

BRIC recently announced that the return of JazzFest in-person at BRIC House Oct. 21-23 will also require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test within 72 hours.

BRIC's Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival is running through September, bringing a number of live performances to the borough. All of the acts are free, aside from a small number of ticketed benefit concerts.
