Crime is down in Prospect Heights and Brooklyn as a whole.
There has been a 25.8% decrease in crime reported to Prospect Heights' 77th Precinct and a 17.6% decrease reported to the 78th Precinct during the week July 12 to July 18, compared to the same period last year.
Across the two precincts, there have been 37 incidents reported, including two rapes and five robberies.
During the same period last year, there were 48 incidents reported across the two precincts, including two murders and one rape.
There have been five murders and 17 rapes reported this year in the neighborhood, compared with 11 murders and 17 rapes reported by the same date in 2020.
Looking at the 28-day cycle, there has been a 23.3% decrease in incident reports at the 77th Precinct and 21.6% increase at the 78th Precinct this year on last.
The most common incident reported over the week-long period was grand larceny, with 18 reports. That is five more reports of grand larceny than the same period last year.
On July 20, the 77th Precinct tweeted the photo of a man wanted for firing a gun near 1271 Lincoln Place on July 18. They are asking the public for information.
On July 21, the 78th Precinct tweeted a sketch of a man wanted in connection to multiple sex crimes that have occurred recently at Prospect Park.

Across the borough, there have been 586 incidents reported between July 12 and July 18, according to NYPD's CompStat, including one murder and four rapes in Brooklyn South and three murders and six rapes in Brooklyn North. There were 74 reported robberies and 160 felony assaults.

Police have released a sketch of a man they believe sexually assaulted two women, within hours of each other, in Brooklyn's Prospect Park in early July. According to the NYPD, around 1:00pm on July 10, the man approached a 34-year-old woman inside the park, near the intersection of Prospect Park West and 5th Street, in the Park Slope neighborhood. Police said he pushed her up against large rocks and put his hand over her mouth.
A 40-year-old Brooklyn man shot the night of July 4th during an argument with people leaning on his girlfriend's car has died, police said Friday. Omar Guzman died Wednesday at Brookdale Hospital, where he was being treated for four shots to his upper body and legs. His death has been ruled a homicide. Police said the Independence Day shooting happened around 9:00pm when Guzman got into an argument on Central Ave. near Cornelia St. in Bushwick.
Three Brooklyn men have been arrested and charged with hate crimes for allegedly attacking Jewish people outside Brooklyn synagogues. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said Bensonhurst resident Daniel Shaukat, 20, and Haider Anjam, 21 and Ashan Azad, 19, both of Midwood, were charged in the 30-count indictment on Tuesday.
