City's Outdoor Swimming Pools Now Open, Including New Cool Pools

Brooklyn now has four Cool Pools out of its total 13 outdoor City-run swimming pools

Lather on the sunscreen, pull on your swimsuit and grab a towel — the City's swimming pools are officially back in business.

The City opened its 53 outdoor pools for the summer over the weekend just in time for this week's heatwave, after more than a year of closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

And although it may be too hot to venture out in the middle of the day, gates don't close until 7:00pm.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said this summer in the city would be "a season unlike any other."

"New Yorkers count down the days to pool season in a normal year. This year, new Cool Pools will make these offerings more enjoyable than ever. I can't wait to join New Yorkers in staying cool and enjoying the outdoors this summer."

Over the weekend, the City also unveiled three new Cool Pools, two of which are in Brooklyn — Howard and Bushwick — bringing the total Cool Pools in the city to 16.

The pools have all been transformed with fun summer-themed wall art and lounge chairs for sunbathing and relaxing poolside; cabana-style shade structures to help keep you cool; plantings to make our pools greener; fun and free poolside activities, including games, sports, arts and crafts and fitness classes.

Brooklyn's Commodore Barry Pool and Douglas and DeGraw Pool are both Cool Pools.

NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP he was thrilled to officially open outdoor pools for the season and "celebrate this exciting step in our collective return to normalcy."

NYC Parks' outdoor pools will open through Sunday, September 12. Daily hours of operation are 11:00am to 3:00am and 4:00am to 7:00pm, seven days a week. Pool capacity will not be limited for the upcoming season, but social distancing is still recommended, and face coverings will be required to enter the facility.
