Trump is insane. There are no mortgage companies or grocery stores willing to "work along" with his ridiculous shutdown of the government over a silly wall along Mexico's border.
So while our commander-in-chief continues to live in his alternate universe-- one where he has never experienced what it feels like to go hungry since he has an endless supply of hamberders-- we've compiled for you a list of food pantries and soup kitchens, by neighborhood in Central and East Brooklyn.
The majority of these pantries will distribute bags of groceries and may have more specialty items, such as baby formula or fresh fruits. The soup kitchens will also serve a hot meal, with some of the Brooklyn centers focused on meeting the needs of seniors, children, or students.
Most of these centers listed require you live in the immediate area of the pantry, so be sure to first identify your neighborhood. They may ask for proof of residence, identification, and hardship status (if you are a government worker, just tell them your hardship has resulted from the government shutdown). Also, many of the locations are only open certain times and days of the week, so call before heading over there.
Finally, if you are not someone who is undergoing financial stress, please consider donating food to one of these local pantries or volunteering your time to help the staff!

The Salvation Army
The nations and regions leading non-profit agency. They offer social services and a food pantry at five different locations in the Brooklyn New York region. Clients will need a referral and to also make an appointment. In addition to free food and meals, the centers have other assistance too. This can include a clothing closet, free Christmas and Thanksgiving meals, the Angel Tree program, and maybe even money to pay rent or energy bills.
