Health vendors provided services, free screenings and educational materials for they entire family.

Kings County Hospital hosted a free community Back-to-School Health Fair on Friday to help families prepare their children for school with services and educational materials on a variety of health issues.

“NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County is constantly looking for ways to meet the healthcare needs of our community,” said Chief Executive Officer Sheldon P. McLeod. “Knowledge is power, and the information provided at our Back-to-School Health Fair helped to connect families and children with resources necessary to start the new school year off healthy and happy.”

Services included physicals, immunizations, dental screenings, vision and hearing tests. Children of all ages—including infants and toddlers—participated in the family-friendly event, receiving face painting, healthy snacks, free backpacks, school supplies and more. The health fair also provided information on vaccination requirements, flu shots, nutrition, sleep, setting routines, and limiting screen time on computers and cell phones.

“Studies show that healthy students have better attendance and perform better in school,” said Dr. David Stevens, chief of Ambulatory Care. “Hosting this health fair allowed NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County to demonstrate our commitment to the community to help educate families about health and wellness.”
