Trump, A Presidency That Will Live in Infamy

From presidents past we have, "we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion." From presidents past we have, "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

From presidents past we have, "we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion." From presidents past we have, "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." From presidents past we have, "ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country." From presidents past we have, "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I'm found; was blind but now I see."

From Trump we have nothing worth repeating — so many vile slurs, outright lies, conspiracy theories, and affronts to the dignity of our nation. This week, Trump added to an already shameful record by sharing anti-Muslim videos from an extremist, ultra-nationalist source. On a daily basis, Trump reaffirms how unfit he is to hold the tremendous responsibility that comes leadership. With his defacing, disfiguring, and disrespecting our cherished values, Trump manages to bring himself lower and lower in an office whose job it is to call of us all to new heights.

In addition to rejecting Trump's hateful messages, we must also reject his hateful policies. I renew the commitment I made in week one of this maladministration: I will have no part in Trump's attempts to enlist state and local government in his cruel efforts. I will resist by way of advancing policies that uphold the dignity of every community. I will resist by supporting lawsuits that challenge the unconstitutional policies Trump advances. I will resist by passing legislation that affirms our New York values. And I will resist by protesting affronts to our shared values.
