In what has become a yearly meeting of the minds for a greater good, Healthfirst is presenting their annual Health & Wellness Expo at the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza on July 23. The expo will feature prominent medical experts and elected local officials as they work together to promote family health and community wellness. Although it takes place at a prominent Bed-Stuy location, this expo is free and open to the public at large from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Unlike some smaller health fairs, this expo brings together a host of dynamic medical professionals and nutritionists as they create a dialogue with the community. With each Expo, Healthfirst, a not-for-profit health insurance company, continues their efforts towards identifying and responding to communities' health needs. This year, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams will convene a town hall breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. moderated by Susan Beane, MD, Healthfirst Vice President and Medical Director.
"We want to bring the community together to heighten awareness on common health issues prevalent in the African American and Hispanic populations that are preventable through access to care and proper support," said George Hulse, Healthfirst Vice President of Community Engagement
The Health & Wellness Pavilion will feature free health screenings, prizes and giveaways, fresh smoothie samples, and fitness and Zumba workshops. The Kids Zone will offer face painting and live entertainment from the New York Aquarium, Prospect Park Zoo, and the Brooklyn Museum. If last year's expo is any indication, the Bed-Stuy Restoration Plaza will serve thousands of attendees and generate awareness on pressing health matters that are affecting the community.
