The largest event of its kind in New York City, this celebration is presented in partnership with the Brooklyn Borough President and Medgar Evers College, and has been a BAM tradition since 1990.
Past acts have included a salute to Curtis Mayfield, political hip-hop crew Blitz the Ambassador, and new-jazz vocalist Chandra Rule.
In conjunction with the event, BAMcafé Live features a weekend of music programming inspired by Dr. Kings vision of social activism and equality.
This years tribute kicks off on Monday, January 19, and features a host of events celebrating Dr. Kings vision, including a keynote address by Dr. Cornel West, musical performances, a book signing, a free community film screening, and a free art exhibition.
Stay tuned for more information on the lineup as the event date approaches!
How can I get ahold of the events schedule? It is about time that we dedicate a moment of the DAY COMMEMORATING MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. OUR AFRICAN-AMERICAN HEROE TO THE SPIRITUAL SOURCE THAT HUMAN ICON IS FOR US and not another shopping day. REV. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. IS NOT A MARKET COMMODITY.
RMLK, JR. GAVE US THE CONCIOUSNESS OF WHO WE ARE AS HUMAN BEING OF COLOR, ALL COLORS!!!
