Culminating Fall Fashion Week 2014, in New York City, Essence Magazine decided to get in the game by showcasing the origin of where much of today’s top designers get their inspiration: the street!
On Sunday, September 7, Essence sponsored a block party in DUMBO that brought the best of the five boroughs “down under the Manhattan/Brooklyn overpass” featuring vendors, music, food and a massive sea of women celebrating urban vogue in its rawest form.
The day-long extravaganza also featured a special guest appearances by TV personality, fashion designer and Essence Street Style Fashion Show co-host Vanessa Simmons, along with a performance by multi-Grammy nominated singer Jazmine Sullivan.
Check out these photos taken by Clinton Hill resident Michael July (author of the book Afros) to get the full picture of what it really means to rock “Crunk Couture.”
